To instil a love of reading in your child there are a number of things you can do.  Read to your child from the earliest age, not just at bedtime. Buy cloth books as some of your child’s first toys. Carry them around with snacks in the babies bag.

Create “comfy time,” a time in which you both associate love and cuddling with reading. Any time either of you needs a break, grab a book and read to your child. Post tantrum, during lunch, after school, while you have your coffee on Sunday, any time can be comfy time. Research shows that reading to children and discussing the book as you read is the single best way to increase your child’s IQ and instil a love of reading. Be a role model, read yourself. Research shows that if children are exposed to books early on they tend to become better learners and earlier speakers.
